NOTE:  All classes will be held at the Pioneer Woman Museum located at 701 Monument Road in Ponca City, Oklahoma.  Students may register for classes by calling the museum at (580) 765-6108.

 

Pine Needle Basket Weaving - This class is a beginner coiling class, using long-leaf natural and dyed pine needles.  The needles will be coiled on gourds and embellished.  

Date and Time: Saturday, September 9th from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.  Registration Deadline:  Thursday, August 31st. Cost:  $40.00 per participant, includes materials.  Instructor:  Rena Vickery

Beginning Market Basket Weaving – This class teaches beginners the art of weaving the “market basket” which was traditionally used to carry items at the market.  It is a rectangular basket with a handle in the middle.  Participants should bring scissors, clothespins, a ruler, and a plastic spray bottle.

Date and Time: Sunday, September 24th from 12noon – 5p.m.  Registration Deadline: Thursday, September 14th.  Cost: $30.00 per participant, includes materials.  Instructor: Mary Sorrells

Beginning Rug Hooking - This class will teach students the art of primitive rug hooking, using hand-dyed wool to create a beautiful pillow-sized iris mat.  Participants may bring lunch, scissors, and a 14” no-slip embroidery hoop.  

Date and Time: Saturday, September 30th from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Registration Deadline:  Thursday, September 21st. Cost:  $20.00 per participant, plus $38.00 material fee Instructor:  Gina Levesque

Penny Rug  - This class will use hand-dyed wool to create a beautiful multi-colored flower mat through the art of penny rug making, often practiced by early-day pioneer women to create decorative mats for tables.   Students should bring a thimble, and scissors and may bring lunch.

Date and Time: Saturday, October 21st from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.  Registration Deadline:  Thursday, October 12th. Cost:  $30.00 per participant, plus $30.00 material fee Instructor:  Gina Levesque

Pine Needle Basket Weaving - This class will teach students to make a Black Bear-Black Bear Coiled Gourd basket.  Students will work with a dyed gourd with coils of longleaf pine needles and binder of artificial sinew to create this stunning piece. 

Date and Time: Saturday, October 28th from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.  Registration Deadline:  Thursday, October 19th. Cost:  $40.00, includes materials. Instructor:  Rena Vickery

Christmas Stocking Basket Weaving - This class focuses on weaving a stocking shaped basket, perfect for holiday decorating. Students should bring scissors, a plastic spray bottle for water, and any small ornaments with which they wish to decorate their stocking basket and they may bring lunch.

Date and Time:  Saturday, November 4th from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Registration Deadline:  Thursday, October 26th. Cost:  $40.00 per participant, includes materials.  Instructor:  Mary Sorrells
